UV Disinfection

UVC lamps have been used for disinfection for decades. When a virus infects a host, it uses RNA or DNA to replicate, this is how it grows in number, trying to overwhelm our immune system and later spread to a new host. The energy of UVC light interacts with DNA and RNA altering its structure so that it does not function.

Studies on various bacteria have shown that the dose required for disinfection (in this case reduction by 99.99%) typically varies between 2 and 25 mJ/cm2 (with a few resilient strains requiring doses up to a 100 mJ/cm2). The same study shows slightly higher values in general for viruses, typically between 10 and 100 mJ/cm2 (and for adenovirus, more towards the 100-200 mJ/cm2 range). For different viruses in the corona virus family, requires a dose of just under 30 mJ/cm2 on average, which seems to be the established dose to neutralize the virus of the current pandemic by 99.99%.

IUVA Fact Sheet on UV Disinfection for COVID-19

The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) believes that UV disinfection technologies can play a role in a multiple barrier approach to reducing the transmission of the virus causing COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, based on current disinfection data and empirical evidence.

New research establishes dose for disinfection of sars-cov-2 - Covid-19_EFSEN UV & EB TECHNOLOGY

The effect of EFSENs UV BARx1 proven by new research establishing the UVC dose required for disinfection of SARS CoV-2 (the Covid-19 virus)

New research from two independent studies provides data for inactivation of SARS CoV-2 (the Covid-19 virus) with UVC light at 254 nm. Following the latest scientific advances, EFSEN updates the recommendations for use of UV BARx1 and UV BARx1 PRO, with new, more beneficial values replacing the previous estimated averages based on old studies.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!

UV light from a UV lamp and specially UVC light is very harmful to eyes and skin. Proper shielding of persons and living organisms in the surroundings within 10 m of the UVC source must be established. To secure against reflected radiation from the UVC source, personal working close to the system must wear UV-resistant face shields (clear or colored polycarbonate full face shield covering must be worn), full coverage of work clothes and gloves so that no skin and eyes are exposed to UV. UVC light should under no circumstances be used to clean living organisms.

UV BENCH

UV box for surface disinfection

UV BENCH is designed for disinfection larger products with corners and cracks where cleaning and dispensing can be difficult such as toys, soccer balls, tennis balls, tools etc. Within less than a minute, a 99% disinfection of most common bacteria and virus can be achieved on the outer surfaces.

We have developed W-LED and P-LED and we are distributor of air-cooled UV-LED systems from Excelitas Technologies.

The UV-LED technology is a robust and, above all, efficient technology of the future to cure inks, coatings, silicones and adhesives with UV light, which offer great potential for the printing and coating industry. UV-LEDs can be switched on and off instantly in line with operation cycles, so energy is consumed only when necessary. This makes the advantage of the LED technology clear: the service life of the LEDs is equal to the actual usage time. This makes UV-LED light sources substantially more efficient and economical in cycled operation.
